Skincare for Acne – Tips and Tricks

Date

  • 28 June, 2022

For those living with acne, skin care regimes are a delicate balance between lifestyle and product ingredients. Managing acne can take years for some. And even when you invest all the time and money possible, you may still experience issues with acne.

That’s why we’re here to help. Below are several tips and tricks for dealing with acne.

1.   Wash your face regularly

The first step toward battling acne is ensuring that you’re washing your face regularly. This is because you want to remove any bacteria from your pores and hair follicles. Throughout the day, your skin accumulates sweat, oil, sebum, and dead skin cells. This can be even more irritating if you wear makeup and sunscreen, or if you live in an area that has a lot of environmental pollutants. By cleansing your face regularly, you can remove the grime from your skin.

How often you decide to cleanse your face depends on your tolerance to cleanser. Some benefit most from cleaning their face at the beginning and end of each day. Others can only tolerate washing their face once a day. As long as you’re washing your face regularly, your skin will thank you.

2.   Choose the right cleanser

The cleanser you use will have a significant impact on your skin. To choose the right one, you need to know your skin type. For example, do you have dry, oily, or combination skin? Knowing this allows you to select a cleanser that prevents your skin from drying out while removing grime from your pores.

If you have oily skin, you may want to consider products with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. If you have sensitive skin, you’re better off choosing products with lactic acid or other hydrating ingredients like glycerin.

3.   Don’t exfoliate too often

Exfoliation is excellent for those who want to remove dead skin cells and grime from their face. That being said, you can also negatively impact your acne by exfoliating too often. This is because frequent exfoliation can cause redness, inflammation, and irritation. If you exfoliate your acne, you can also cause open wounds and infections. To be safe, consider reducing your exfoliation frequency to one or two times per week.

4.   Clean your towels and pillow covers

To reduce acne, it’s best to regularly clean and change both your towels and pillow covers. Too often, we reuse our towels and pillow covers, which results in a buildup of bacteria. This bacteria then comes into contact with your skin whenever you clean your face and sleep, causing acne.

5.   Moisturize regularly

When you have dry and dehydrated skin, this can lead to an overproduction of oil because your skin tries to produce the oil it’s lacking. The overproduction of oil from your oil glands can then make your acne worse. Instead, consider moisturizing regularly to prevent your oil glands from overworking. This also provides your skin with the hydration required to heal from the wear that occurs during the day.

Conclusion

When trying to reduce your acne, it’s best to identify how it develops in your body. You can then begin to mitigate the causes of acne in your system and reduce it, overall. When trying to reduce acne, remember to clean your face, choose the right cleanser, reduce exfoliation, clean your towels and pillow covers, and moisturize regularly.
